About Cramlington Register Office

Cramlington Register Office, at The Hub on Forum Way, is a Northumberland County Council register office for both births and deaths, administered by the county's Morpeth registrars. For Blyth residents it is the closest office at which a death can be registered — the town's own Blyth Family Hub handles birth registrations and marriage notices only, not deaths. Registration is by appointment, so you need to telephone the registration service on 0345 600 6400 to book; a death should normally be registered within five days unless it has been referred to the coroner.

At the appointment the registrar records the death and issues the death certificate. It is worth asking for several certified copies (each costs £12.50), as banks, insurers and the probate process often each require one. The registrar also provides a unique reference for the government's free Tell Us Once service, which reports a death to most central and local government departments in a single step. Other Northumberland offices that register deaths include Ashington and Morpeth, should they be more convenient.
