About Blyth Battery
Blyth Battery is a fascinating volunteer-run museum dedicated to the coastal defences that protected the port of Blyth during both World Wars. Located at South Beach, the site includes original buildings such as the Magazine where shells were stored, WW1 and WW2 Battery Observation Posts, a Searchlight building, a First World War Officers' Dugout and a recreation of a Royal Observer Corps underground monitoring post. Entrance is free, and guided tours lasting around 45 minutes are available — donations are always welcome. The tea room serves refreshments, and living history events and open days are held throughout the season. Some parts of the site are wheelchair accessible.
