Northumberland's First Dedicated Padel Venue Opens in Blyth

The fastest-growing racket sport in the country is coming to Blyth. Padelsphere, billed as Northumberland's first dedicated padel venue, is opening this summer at Unit F, Progressive Court, on Spencer Road in the Blyth Industrial Estate.

Padel is a doubles game played on an enclosed court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, with solid rackets, a slower ball and walls that keep the rally going. It is easy to pick up and hard to put down, which explains why courts across the country have been fully booked almost as fast as they can be built.

What's inside

The venue occupies around 10,000 sq ft, making it one of the largest indoor sports facilities in the area. At its heart are three courts enclosed in full panoramic glass — two for doubles and one for singles — so spectators and other players can watch the action from every angle.

Beyond the courts, the plan is for a facility you can settle into rather than just turn up and leave. There is a licensed bar and café, lounge areas with live sport on screen, and changing rooms fitted with saunas.

Why it matters for Blyth

Until now, keen padel players in south-east Northumberland have had to drive to Newcastle or Durham to find a court — a round trip of up to 45 minutes each way. Padelsphere puts the sport within five to ten minutes of tens of thousands of residents across Blyth, Bedlington, Cramlington and the surrounding towns.

For a town that has watched a run of new leisure investment in recent years, a dedicated home for a booming sport — with somewhere to eat, drink and warm up afterwards — is a welcome addition to the map.
