Blyth town centre has a new place for a hot, filling lunch. Georgy Porgy's, a pie and mash shop on Bowes Street, opened its doors on Saturday 31 October, and by the end of the day it had sold out of food after queues formed along the street.

For anyone working in or visiting the town centre, it adds a traditional sit-down lunch option a short walk from the Market Place. It is also good news for the town centre itself: another independent food business trading in the town centre, run by an owner with years of experience in the local hospitality trade.

What's on the Menu

Pie and mash is usually associated with London, where it is served with a green parsley sauce known as liquor. Georgy Porgy's takes a northern route instead, pairing its pies with buttery mash and gravy. According to Brit Brief, the opening menu included steak, mince and onion, chicken balti, and cheese and onion pies at £7.50, each served with mash, mushy peas, gravy and crispy onions. Cakes with custard are on offer too, alongside soft drinks, tea and coffee.

Opening Day

The shop thanked customers on its Facebook page after the launch, telling them: "You absolutely cleared us out." The Northumberland Gazette also reported a busy launch weekend, noting that the owner has run pubs and cafés across the North East.

Opening Hours

At the time of writing, Georgy Porgy's is open from 11am to 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. As a new business, its hours may change, so it is worth checking its Facebook page before making a special trip.
