Blyth.live·

Blyth's EV charging network has grown alongside the Northumberland Line, with chargers now available at the town centre shopping centre, the new Bebside station, and a rapid hub nearby. Here is the practical guide.

Town Centre Charging

Fuuse network at Keel Row Shopping Centre, NE24 1AH -- 3 devices operated by Northumberland County Council. No access card needed -- just plug in and start. Located in the shopping centre car park, making it easy to charge while you shop. These are fast AC chargers suitable for a top-up during a couple of hours in town.

Best for:

As of April 2026, Northumberland County Council's tariff is 68p/kWh for 11 kW and 22 kW chargers and 78p/kWh for 50 kW chargers. No membership or joining fee -- you pay only for what you use.

Northumberland Line Station Chargers

Blyth Bebside station has EV chargers installed as part of the Northumberland Line roll-out. The chargers are 7.4 kW and cost 57p/kWh. Instructions are on each unit with a QR code to buy charging time. Ideal for commuters -- charge your car while you take the train into Newcastle.

Chargers are also available at Newsham and Seaton Delaval stations on the same line.

Rapid Charging Nearby

InstaVolt operates a 62 kW DC rapid charging station near Blyth. Contactless payment only -- no app or subscription needed. InstaVolt is one of the most straightforward networks to use: just tap your card and plug in.

Costs at a Glance

| Location | Speed | Approximate Cost | |----------|-------|-----------------| | Keel Row (NCC/Fuuse) | 11-22 kW AC | 68p/kWh | | Bebside station | 7.4 kW AC | 57p/kWh | | InstaVolt (rapid) | 62 kW DC | ~70-85p/kWh |

Nearby Charging

If Blyth's chargers are busy or you need a faster option:

Cramlington has several chargers including at the Manor Walks shopping centre, roughly 10 minutes' drive south.

Whitley Bay has chargers at Morrisons on Hillheads Road (MFG EV Power rapid) and at Bournemouth Gardens car park (7 kW AC).

Home Charging

If you have a driveway, a home wallbox is the cheapest way to charge -- typically 7-10p/kWh on an overnight tariff. Installation costs around £800-£1,200 before any grant.

The OZEV grant (up to £500, covering 75% of installation cost) is available for renters, flat owners, and landlords -- but ended for owner-occupiers with driveways in 2022.

The Residential Picture

Blyth has a mix of housing stock. Many of the town's newer estates and ex-council properties have driveways, making home charger installation relatively straightforward. The older terraced streets closer to the town centre are more challenging.

Northumberland County Council's EV charging strategy is focused on ensuring every market town and major settlement has at least one rapid charger, backed by LEVI funding and the Levelling Up programme. The Keel Row installation is part of that programme.
