Blyth Celebrates 2026/27: Six Months of Free Festivals and Family Fun

There is plenty for Blyth families to look forward to this autumn and winter. The town's free cultural programme, Blyth Celebrates, is back for a new season running from August 2026 through to February 2027, with festivals, exhibitions, performances and seasonal celebrations spread across the town.

What's On

The season opens in August with free Whirling Windmill workshops from Moving Parts Arts, inviting children and families to design and make colourful spinning windmills. September brings a fuller programme, including a special celebration marking 200 years of lifesaving in the town.

Returning highlights include Novo Theatre's immersive storytelling experience Salt & Smoke: Stories of Blyth, which draws on the town's own maritime and industrial past. Later in the season, Blyth Town Council produces the town's Halloween and Christmas celebrations, and there is a Blyth Festival of Film strand of screenings running alongside the live events.

Free, With a Few Exceptions

Most events are free to attend, although some popular activities require advance booking, so it is worth checking dates and reserving a place early. A small charge applies to selected screenings within the Festival of Film programme.

Why It Matters to Blyth

The programme has become a real fixture in the town's calendar, having drawn more than 90,000 visitors in its previous run. For residents, that means a steady stream of things to do on the doorstep without the cost of travelling further afield, and a boost for the town-centre venues and businesses that benefit from the footfall.

Many of the events are staged at the new Market Pavilion on Blyth Market Place, with others at venues including the Phoenix Theatre. It all adds up to a busy and welcoming few months in the heart of the town.
